ISLAND GAMES 2026 INTERNATIONAL WEEK Recognized as an Official Commemorative Event for the 50th Anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia
We are pleased to announce that INTERNATIONAL WEEK of ISLAND GAMES 2026, taking place from September 7–10, 2026, has been approved as an official commemorative event for the 50th Anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia, a joint initiative of the Governments of Japan and Australia.
INTERNATIONAL WEEK will bring together three premier basketball clubs at Okinawa Suntory Arena: the Ryukyu Golden Kings, the Chiba Jets of Japan's B.LEAGUE, and the Perth Wildcats, one of the most successful clubs in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL).
Following the Ryukyu Golden Kings' first-ever preseason tour of Australia last season, this year's event brings leading clubs from Japan and Australia together in Okinawa, providing another opportunity to strengthen the friendship between the two countries through basketball while delivering world-class competition.
As part of this commemorative initiative, the Ryukyu Golden Kings will continue contributing to the strong friendship between Japan and Australia while showcasing the unique appeal of Okinawa to audiences around the world.

In 2026, Japan and Australia celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia. To commemorate this milestone, the Governments of Japan and Australia officially recognize events and initiatives organized by local governments, businesses, and organizations that promote exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
